The SMARTWork Workplace Guide for Managers and Labor Leaders: HIV/AIDS Policies and Programs provides a thorough, step-by-step approach to help workplaces respond to the risks of HIV/AIDS through policies, prevention education, care, and support programs. Offering examples, best practices, and references from diverse employers and trade unions all over the world, the guide is designed to jointly engage employers and managers, labor unions and workers, and government representatives in forming and implementing workplace HIV/AIDS programs and policies. Country Briefs

For each of the countries in which we work, SMARTWork assessed the state of HIV/AIDS prevention, and developed recommendations for addressing the epidemic. (Briefs will be added as they become available.)

Country Project Plans

SMARTWork has developed unique, targeted plans for each country that describe the current state of HIV/AIDS, the SMARTWork program approach and strategy, our target groups and partners, management framework, and program sustainability.

Needs Assessment Guide

SMARTWork's Developing Workplace HIV/AIDS Policies and Programs: Needs Assessment Guide demonstrates how to collect and analyze information on current conditions, practices, and attitudes among employers, workers, and government officials toward HIV/AIDS and the workplace. It has been used by SMARTWork staff to show managers how to conduct an assessment of workplace needs and resources, serving as a foundation for developing appropriate HIV/AIDS programs and policies for their workplaces.

Zimbabwe Mapping and Inventory Study
Over the past two decades, many workplace-focused HIV/AIDS interventions have been undertaken in Zimbabwe. However, with the large number of organizations involved, there was not a clear sense of the range of workplace HIV/AIDS programs and policies that exist in the country. SMARTWork/Zimbabwe conducted this Mapping and Inventory Study to conduct a thorough "mapping" or "inventorying" of organizations with workplace HIV/AIDS prevention programs, and to identify the principal activities, tools, and resources used.

SMARTWork/DR Bulletins
Our Programa Trabajo Vivo provides a weekly bulletin to enterprise committee coordinators who have participated in SMARTWork activities. Each week's bulletin provides educational materials and tools on a specific topic related to HIV/AIDS, and provides resources to disseminate to employees in the workplace.

A PRACTICAL GUIDE: HIV/AIDS Problems for State Labor Inspectors New!
This practical guide is one of the first manuals designed to facilitate the introduction of workplace programs in the labor field. It contains recommendations and instructions for the implementation of HIV/AIDS prevention programs in enterprises. It also includes international and national documents and legislative acts which regulate the protection of labor and HIV/AIDS issues. The guide is designed for labor inspectors, trade union leaders, employers, and wide range of professionals in the labor field and is based upon "A Workplace Guide for Managers and Labor Leaders: HIV/AIDS Policies and Programs." The document is in Ukrainian.

Zimbabwe IEC/BCC Toolkit

AED SMARTWork's, A Healthy Workforce: A Toolkit for HIV and AIDS Advocacy and Behavior Change Communication in the Workplace, was released in May 2005. Developed for use by Zimbabwean companies without ready access to external technical assistance, the materials also can be easily adapted for use by other enterprises. The toolkit outlines the processes for creating and implementing a workplace HIV/AIDS policy in a simple, "do it yourself" format, and it also contains HIV/AIDS prevention education materials for workers and their partners.
