Country Programs

SMARTWork works in six countries—the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Nigeria, Ukraine, Vietnam, and Zimbabwe—to help create effective responses to the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

SMARTWork's country sites span the globe, and their experience with the HIV/AIDS pandemic are also varied. In Ukraine, the Dominican Republic, and Vietnam, prevalence rates of HIV/AIDS are low, but high infection rates are high; intervention now could prevent a burgeoning epidemic. Haiti, Nigeria, and Zimbabwe have experienced far longer and more devastating epidemics; work to reverse the epidemic and its effects are critical. Regardless of their situations, SMARTWork countries share a commitment to containing the epidemic, safeguarding the economy, and protecting the health of their citizens.

In these six countries, SMARTWork fosters tripartite responses—responses built upon the combined strengths of business, labor, and government—to make life better for individuals and employers alike.
